Our Highnland slippers run a little small, which is why we recommend choosing one size larger if in doubt. However, if the shoe is then a little too loose, our tip is to insert an insole (e.g. our 3mm or 5mm insoles).

Felt is largely self-cleaning and not very susceptible to dirt. Eventually, of course, it's time for a clean. Here's how:

  1. Preparation: First, tap out the slippers and brush off the dirt, e.g. with our felt brush.
  2. Hand wash: We recommend hand washing, but WoolFits with leather soles can also be machine washed.
  3. Washing machine: Use the delicate cycle at a maximum of 30°C. Do not use aggressive cleaning agents. Instead, use a mild wool detergent.
  4. Care: Additionally, after washing, the shoes can be treated with our lanolin wool treatment to restore the natural properties of the wool (dirt and water repellent).
  5. Drying: After washing, stuff the damp shoes with newspaper and let them dry at room temperature.

You can find more information in our care tips.

The leather sole is very durable and can be used outdoors (except when wet). However, it will quickly darken when used outside, so we recommend using the shoes indoors if possible. Sharp stones can also damage the sole. The average lifespan of our leather soles is 2-4 years.

Closed-back felt slippers made of 100% natural wool

The Highland is the closed-back counterpart to the Tundra felt slipper. Just like its counterpart, it impresses with a minimalist design. It is light, flexible and compact – ideal for home and on the go.

It is also made from felt of 100% natural virgin wool and a robust sole of vegetable-tanned leather. This makes it a minimalist foot comforter.

Thanks to the practical loop, the slipper is super easy and effortless to put on.

Who is the Highland suitable for?

It may be hard to believe, but our WoolFit co-founder, Sven, was once a self-proclaimed slipper hater until the day the cold in the office became unbearable and he grabbed a pair of Highlands from our warehouse. He hasn't taken them off since.

So, if there's a slipper refuser in your family who needs convincing, or you yourself are looking for a high-quality closed felt slipper, the Highland is the right choice!

Despite its closed design, this model is also suitable for year-round use due to its slightly thinner felt. Perfect foot climate without sweaty feet or overheating.

How is Highland manufactured?

Unlike our other models (e.g., the WoolFit Classic), the Highland is not felted by hand in one piece; instead, it is sewn together from several individual parts.

For this, felt plates of the appropriate thickness and density are first produced by machine. These felt plates are then cut into special shoe patterns and subsequently sewn.

The pre-fabricated footwear is finally pulled onto a shoe last and felted once more with hot water and friction, so that it takes on the anatomical shape.

The production of our slippers is extremely gentle, as no toxic chemicals are used and no unnecessary waste is generated during production. All wool offcuts are recycled or used as insulation material.

Sustainable Materials

We rely on sustainable and high-quality raw materials, including organic virgin wool from local shepherds, vegetable-tanned leather, and natural latex for bonding the soles. Our virgin wool is plant-dyed and is OEKOTEX-100 certified.

By the way, what makes our Kyrgyz wool special is
that it comes not from Merino sheep, but from Kyrgyz Fat-tailed sheep. These animals live outdoors all year round and are exposed to the extreme climatic conditions of the harsh natural environment. Therefore, their curly woolly splendor is considered particularly warm and robust. The wool of these sheep is generally mulesing-free.

Feel free to read our blog post about wool. Here you will find much more detailed information about this great and versatile material.

Our Manufactory

The WoolFit Highland is made in Kyrgyzstan in a woman-led
manufactory
. The company is a collective of various artisans.

We are incredibly happy to work with this manufactory, as it is considered a top employer in the country and the Kyrgyz people are very proud of this company.

We act directly and without intermediaries, so 100% of the money goes to those who actually make the slippers.
