In the following article, you will learn how the idea for WoolFit came about.

How it all began...

It all started 45 years ago when my father travelled to Nepal with his father. The beautiful landscape, the warmth of the people, and the clearest starry sky he had ever seen moved him to take me on a trip there in 2017.

Since then, a lot has changed. The small city of Kathmandu has become a metropolis of millions, and the stars, just like here, hide behind the city lights. What has remained is the warmth that the Nepalese people show you.

In 2015, Kathmandu was hit by a severe earthquake, which completely destroyed large parts of the city as well as ancient temple complexes.

The terrible consequences of the earthquake were still visible everywhere during my first visit in 2017. This ignited in us the desire to help this country in some way.

But what can two simple slipper salesmen do?

The idea for WoolFit came during a visit to a small market where artistic felt shoes in various colours and shapes were offered. Although they looked fun, the fit and foot comfort were, well… something to get used to. However, the loving craftsmanship and the uniqueness of the product convinced us that a great product could be developed with the Nepalese people that German feet would also love.

Together with a small manufacturer near the temple city of Bhaktapur, we spent over 2 years continuously developing, testing, and improving product samples. For the perfect fit, we commissioned the traditional German company Fagus, which provided us with custom-developed shoe lasts.

After numerous setbacks and intercultural communication difficulties, we successfully sold a small initial series in 2018 and gathered largely positive customer feedback.

This year, we have further optimized our slippers and equipped them with innovative footbed ideas, and we are now ready for the big step into the global market. We would be delighted if you would join us on this journey and test our slippers yourself. Each pair comes with a satisfaction guarantee, because customer satisfaction is our top priority.

Furthermore, we discovered another production that makes felt slippers using traditional techniques. The only slipper production in Kyrgyzstan run exclusively by women – that immediately piqued our interest. And it paid off: in a short time, we developed great slippers with optical highlights and unique comfort with the Kyrgyz.

Viele verschiedene Modelle in unterschiedlichen Farben gibt es mittlerweile in unserem Sortiment

In the meantime, we have many great slipper models:

  • If you like it soft, colorful, lively and cuddly, choose a Nepalese felt slipper: Footprint, Yeti or Tibet

  • If you like it elegant, stylish and comfortable, choose our Kyrgyz models: Classic, Taiga, Nomad, Tundra, Highland, Woolies
