FAQ
Products, Range, Care
It depends on how thick your insoles are. Thicker insoles fit wonderfully into our WoolFit Classic slippers. Not-so-thick insoles fit perfectly into the WoolFit Taiga, our Ballerina slippers, or even the Highlands.
Basically all of them, our softest models are from Nepal, e.g. the WoolFit Footprint or the WoolFit Tibet. Also our new model Sherpa.
As a general rule, we advise against washing your shoes in a washing machine as this can cause them to shrink. However, it is certainly possible for shoes with leather soles. Please read the instructions linked below.
You can find detailed instructions on how to clean felt slippers in our Care Tips for Felt Slippers.
We have received very positive feedback from many customers who suffer from diabetes. However, we cannot give medical advice. The positive qualities of our hand-felted slippers include:
- No pressure-causing seams, as they are hand-felted in one piece.
- Especially soft.
- Plenty of toe room.
Here we can particularly recommend the models Footprint, Yeti and Tibet.
Some customers who suffer from numb feet have also found our massage sole, the FeelGood Footbed, to be very helpful.
Production, Materials
Mulesing is the practice of cutting off excess skin folds around the anus of sheep. This is a common practice with Merino sheep, as they are so overbred for wool production that they have "too much" skin. Especially in the area around the anus, parasites such as blowfly larvae accumulate there and cause diseases. During mulesing, these skin folds are cut off - usually already in young animals and without anaesthesia. Anyone who has seen pictures of it knows how cruel and traumatising it must be for the sheep.
Therefore, mulesing is banned in many countries, but unfortunately not yet in all (not in Australia, for example).
If you want to ensure that the wool is mulesing-free, you should pay attention to the following:
- only buy Merino wool from mulesing-free certified farms.
- buy wool from countries where mulesing is banned, such as New Zealand.
- do not use wool from overbred sheep breeds.
We source our wool from regional shepherds in Kyrgyzstan, who keep their sheep outdoors all year round in a traditional way. The common sheep breed there is the fat-tailed sheep, which has not been overbred for wool production.
For our slippers from Nepal, we also use regional wool. However, since the quantity there is often not sufficient, we also buy wool from New Zealand. Mulesing has been banned in New Zealand since 2018.
For the products from our Kyrgyz production, we exclusively use regional, mulesing-free wool. It comes from small and medium-sized farmers whose farms are located in the highlands of the Naryn-Kul regions in Kyrgyzstan. Harsh highland conditions determine the special properties of Kyrgyz sheep's wool. It has more curls, which allows for a stronger felt to be produced, providing better protection against the cold.
Wool Collection Points: In Kyrgyzstan, there are more sheep than people, and therefore the demand for wool is more than met. Remote shepherds with no connection to the city have no chance to sell their wool and are therefore often forced to throw it away, as they primarily keep the sheep for meat production. Our partner in Kyrgyzstan provides these shepherds in small villages with so-called wool collection points, where they can profitably sell their wool and it is collected by our production facility there. In this way, we ensure the sustainable use of existing resources.
Nepal: Here, we try to cover most of our wool needs regionally. In Nepal, industrial mass animal farming is largely unknown, and the wool also mostly comes from very small farms and individuals. Although there are many sheep in Nepal, there is a lack of infrastructure to meet the year-round demand of processing businesses. Therefore, in addition to regional wool, we now also purchase wool from New Zealand. This wool is also mulesing-free, as mulesing was banned in New Zealand in 2018.
"Vegetable" does not mean that the leather is "vegetarian", but that it has been tanned with vegetable substances. In industrial leather production, chemicals are usually used, which not only harm the environment but also leave harmful ingredients in the leather.
In vegetable tanning, only tanning agents from plants, called tannins, are used. These are known, for example, from red wine, where they determine both the taste and the intensity of the hangover the next day. The leather is tanned together with the tannin-containing plant materials, such as spruce or oak bark, in a pit for a long time. The type of plant material also determines the later color of the leather, which is very difficult to predict and always get the same. Therefore, our slippers with vegetable-tanned leather soles often have a different sole color, which is difficult to cover with a product image. We hope you see it, like us, as a sign of naturalness and genuine craftsmanship.
Why is vegetable-tanned leather so rarely used? Quite simply, vegetable tanning takes much longer than chemical tanning, and the leather is therefore much more expensive than "conventional" leather. Vegetable tanning has been the original way of producing leather for over 5000 years.
The most sustainable approach, of course, is to produce everything as regionally as possible in Germany. However, we also see sustainability as supporting developing countries and helping them build a "sustainably existing" economy. Nepal and Kyrgyzstan are both very poor countries. In contrast to, for example, Germany with its automotive industry, felt processing and craftsmanship are among the most important economic sectors there. In Nepal, the most important sector (tourism) has now completely collapsed. Both countries also have an enormous import > export imbalance.
In Nepal, for example, imports account for 90% and exports for 10% of trade. As a result, full transport vehicles enter the country and empty ones return, meaning our goods "hitchhike" part of the way.
We are firmly convinced that fair trade and economic support for developing countries like Nepal and Kyrgyzstan form the foundation for more education and more justice. This, in turn, is the foundation for a greener future, because the Earth gains nothing if we in prosperous Germany have earned the privilege of being able to live sustainably, while on the other side of the world, environmental protection "must be skimped on" due to poverty. Another reason is certainly also that hand-felted shoes involve 4-5 hours of manual labor per pair. Slippers would, of course, become quite expensive in Germany then.
Unlike with food, there is no precise definition of what “organic” means here.
We understand it to mean that the sheep are kept under the best natural conditions. We use this designation for our shoes from Kyrgyzstan, because the wool there comes from small farmers who keep their sheep outdoors year-round. This type of husbandry is not only more natural for the sheep, but also much more resource-efficient. Little additional feed is needed, and the sheep maintain the grasslands themselves by naturally fertilizing them and preventing individual plants from growing too large.
It has been proven that meadows where sheep graze are much healthier, and this can also prevent erosion from heavy rainfall. The sheep serve as a kind of substitute for the huge herds of free-ranging cattle that roamed the steppes before industrialization and are actually so important for a functioning ecosystem.

Yes, our felt slippers are biodegradable because we only use natural materials. The following three points provide information on how long it takes for the different materials (felt, leather, natural rubber) to degrade.
Wool is a natural, sustainable and biodegradable raw material. It is also rich in important nutrients such as nitrogen, sulphur & magnesium and is therefore ideally suited as a fertiliser for plants. If you want to do something good for your plants, cut the felt into small pieces and add it to the compost. The felt will then decompose within approx. 4 months.
The decomposition period of leather is up to 50 years. For our slippers from Kyrgyzstan (Classics, Step, Ballerina, Taiga), we exclusively use vegetable-tanned leather. This can be safely composted as it contains no chemicals or harmful substances. Our slippers from Nepal still use conventionally tanned leather, which is why the leather sole should be disposed of with general waste.
The natural degradation period is up to 100 years. Natural rubber is produced by vulcanizing caoutchouc. However, when natural rubber biodegrades, it produces by-products that you do not want in the soil. Therefore, please take the soles to a recycling center or dispose of them like a normal shoe.

Yes, in the fourth shopping cart step "Payment", you can enter a billing address that differs from the delivery address at the very bottom (below the selection of payment methods).
Registered users can also enter multiple addresses in their customer account and save them for later. You can then simply select these addresses using the drop-down menu at the corresponding points in the shopping cart (i.e., both as a delivery address and as a billing address).
Of course! When providing your shipping address, simply enter the name of the packing station with the packing station number in the "Address 1" field, and your postal number in the "Address 2" field. According to the following scheme:
Address 1: Packstation + Packstation No.
Address 2: Your postal number
City: Location of the packing station
Postal code: Postal code of the packing station

Returns, Refunds, Exchanges
If you have already paid shipping costs of €4.95 with your order (which apply to orders under €80), then the first return using a return label and also the delivery of the first exchange (if desired) are free of charge. Please note, however, that in this case, the shipping costs are excluded from a refund.
If you originally did not pay shipping costs (for an order value of more than €80), we charge €4.95 for the return label.
When requesting the return label (see previous point) by phone or email, you can also specify the desired exchange items if needed. These will then be reserved for you until your return is received by us. If you inform us of your exchange request by email and the corresponding item is currently unavailable, you will also be informed by us and may receive a refund instead.
If you have already paid for the returned goods, we will deduct the amount of €4.95 (if applicable) from your refund. If you do not wish a refund but an exchange, you will receive a separate invoice (directly via PayPal or for bank transfer, depending on the original payment method) for the cost of the return label when the new items are shipped.
For unpaid invoice purchases, we would ask you to transfer the amount of €4.95 (if you return all delivered items) to the account specified on the original invoice. If you wish to exchange items for unpaid invoice purchases, you will receive a new invoice including the cost of the return label when the new items are shipped (in this case, you can simply ignore the "old" invoice). If you only want to keep part of your delivery and have not yet made a transfer, we would ask you to simply transfer the cost of the items you wish to keep, plus €4.95 for the return label.
After the returned goods have arrived at our premises and been processed by our returns department, we will refund the value of the goods (excluding delivery costs, if applicable) immediately via your original payment method.
Once the returned goods have been received and registered, we will immediately send out your requested exchange.
Of course, the slippers should fit perfectly! However, we ask that you avoid visible signs of wear and tear or damage, as we unfortunately cannot accept returned items otherwise.
We would also ask you to use our original, undamaged manufacturer's box for the return if possible.
